Best Practice Backup Job für Exchange 2013 (#12034)

Postby rickstinson » Tue Sep 08, 2015 10:22 pm

Hello,

we are evaluating cloudbacko for our Exchange 2013 CU9. The Setup includes a DAG with one Database on two servers (1 active, 1 passive copy).
We installed cloudbacko on the mainserver with the active database, backup runs smoothly, our DAG is still alive.
-> But today i read in another thread that you doenst support DAG?
-> Should we wait and uninstall cloudbacko until the new version in Q3?

Second:
i can choose in the backup job between "database" and "logs". i'm a right that with the option "database" everything what i need for a exchange restore(a copy of the database file, transaction logs, and checkpoint files) is saved?

Third:
Do i have to take care of full/incremental backups with a simple backup plan (Retention: -> Simple: 30 Days).
All we want is a daily full backup to our SFTP Destination.

thanks a lot,
patrick

Hi Patrick,

Firstly, thank you for your interest in CloudBacko.

You are correct. DAG is currently not supported and we do target to have this available in v2. As we have not tested v1.x under the DAG environment, it may run the backup but we suggest holding off until v2 is available.

i can choose in the backup job between "database" and "logs". i'm a right that with the option "database" everything what i need for a exchange restore(a copy of the database file, transaction logs, and checkpoint files) is saved?

Yes, when choosing database it would perform a full backup of the database, logs and checkpoint files. The options are there so that you can plan on the backups. With log backup completing much quicker, you can schedule the logs to run during the week for speedier backups and the full database during the weekends.

I not clear on the question of taking care of the backups with the simple plan. Could you provide us with further details on the query?

Hi Patrick.

Sorry, we do not have a release plan available. Unofficially I would say that one of the highlight feature for CloudBacko v2 in the plan is to have instant restore for VMware & Hyper-V backups.
