Scheduled Jobs Failing to Start (License Error in event log)

Postby peterj » Thu May 21, 2015 12:52 am

I have setup three exchange backup jobs which work fine if I start them manually.

However none of them start on schedule (different timings)

The event log shows an error of "[License] Failed to get license. Reason=Trial not available for machine not connected to Internet." even though the machine is online. When I open the software it has no license error and the event log says "[License] Start license update." & "[License] Finished license update." as informational messages

The same error appears in the scheduler debug.log file. (section below) Please help

I am trialling the software & will purchase once this issue is resolved. I would also like to contact someone about setting up a reseller account.

Regards

Peter

Hi peterj,

Would it be possible to check on the security settings on the server? Have seen reports advising that lifting the security checks on the C:\Users\{account name}\.cbp folder has helped resolve the issue. If you have nothing blocking CloudBacko from accessing the internet then I would suggest checking if there is anything that scan the .cbp folder.

Hi, I have added 'everyone' to the ntfs file permissions on the .cbp folder and also excluded it from the antivirus scan but it has made no difference. Scheduled Jobs still do not run unless I open the software and start them manually...

What else can I try please?

Could you advise

- if the machine is connecting to the internet via a proxy?
- if you have tried restarting the service for CloudBacko?
- Check if the firewall is allowing access? To check please follow the thread "Do I need any special settings on my firewall in order to use CloudBacko?" viewtopic.php?f=58&t=83

We don't use a proxy and the proxy settings are disabled

Yes I have restarted the service

The windows firewall is switched off

Are you able to use your web browser to connect to the following addresses?

1. lic.cloudbacko.com on port 443 (License Server)
2. lic-system.cloudbacko.com on port 443 (License Server)
3. shop.cloudbacko.com on port 443 (In-App purchases)
4. www.cloudbacko.com on port 80 (Software updates)

Also you mentioned that you have Windows Firewall switched off. I am not sure of your network setup, but do you have a firewall for your internet connection? Possibly setup on the router? Could you check on the hardware for any firewall rules setup that could be blocking the access?

Yes on all counts

We have no outbound filtering on the Internet router/firewall

As I say if I open the software it contacts the license server ok but seems to fail to do so in the background.

Can you check on the "CloudBacko Pro" service and check if it is using the local system account? If it is, can you try changing this to the administrator account? Since you are able to connect manually, we like to put the service using the same user account to see if that helps.

Hi Johnny

Yes that works now thanks.

I have another question though.

I have setup a few backup jobs some to backup files and some to backup exchange databases and mailboxes to a NAS server. I can see that if I wanted to restore the database I can restore to an alternative location or over the top and I can restore individual mail items so thats fine.

However what happens if I have to reinstall the server running backopro entirely due to an operating system corruption or hardware failure.

i) Will the license work on the new machine or o/s install
ii) How will I actually do a restore since there will be no catalog or record of the backup jobs run previously on the old server. Ie I will have the actual backup files but how do I point BackoPro at them & catalog them so it knows what I have the ability to restore? Hope you see what I mean...

Thanks

Peter

Hi peterj,

i) Will the license work on the new machine or o/s install

Yes, you can apply the license key to a new machine. First we recommend that you export the settings.sys first as this would contain the backup set details.

To export the settings.sys on CloudBacko UI please to the following.

1. Click on [Utilities]
2. On next screen select [Ex/Import Settings] and click on [Export Now]
3. Select the location you wish to save the settings.sys file.

Once done, if you have purchased a license key please make a copy of the key details. Details on where to find the license key can be found here "Where can I find my CloudBacko Pro/Lite license key?" viewtopic.php?f=31&t=297

After you have made the move and uninstalled CloudBacko on the old machine, you can then install CloudBacko on the new server and apply the license key.

ii) How will I actually do a restore since there will be no catalog or record of the backup jobs run previously on the old server. Ie I will have the actual backup files but how do I point BackoPro at them & catalog them so it knows what I have the ability to restore? Hope you see what I mean...

The following FAQ may be of help "My original machine is offline how can I restore my backup from a different machine or location?" viewtopic.php?f=58&t=234

If you import the settings.sys file to the new machine, you will have all the backup config that will allow you to make a restore. Please note that you may need to change the "Network Authenitcation" and "Temporary Directory" on the backup set if they different from the original machine.

Hi,

Can I suggest it would be much better if the configuration was included/embedded in the backup data somehow. What if I setup a new job and forget to export the settings - it sounds like the data might not be restorable rendering it useless. This seems like a major shortcoming..?

I should just be able to point BackoPro at the backup data on the new machine and restore it surely...!

Hello Peter,

The screen shot you posted only show a partial message we are not able to determine the problem from this message.

To help us to get clearer picture of your backup problem. Do you mind copying the backup logs to Dropbox, OneDrive, Google drive etc and share the link on this thread for us to download?

Please refer to our FAQ "Where are the CloudBacko backup and restore logs located?" viewtopic.php?f=58&t=233
