Exchange Log and Database backups

Postby graysont » Thu Sep 10, 2015 6:06 am

when doing both a log and database backup I get the following error on the database backup: Expect Log sequence "set of numbers and letters" but found "Microsoft Exchange Server\Microsoft Information Store\MAIL\guid \Enumbersandletters.log

Can you do both the log and database backups or is the log included in the database backup?

Thank-you

Hi,

The error suggest that there been a change in the sequence for the transaction logs. CloudBacko would be expecting a log file of x sequence, but instead is getting another. Normally this problem occurs if another backup application had run an exchange backup. When a request is made and backup of the logs are performed by a 3rd party app, the log sequence changes. With this breaking up the log sequence, CloudBacko will not be able to restore to the latest state.

To resolve this, please run a full database backup. To do this, just click on [Backup] > {select backup set} > "show advanced option" > select "Database" & "Full" option. Run the backup and the error should be resolved.

You can do both log and database backups. There is no issue with having a setup to run backup such as log backup during the week and database backup at the end of the week. Also, the transaction logs are included in the database backup.
