Cloudbacko Lite with OneDrive (free) sometimes hangs "The same type of request was repeated too many times"

Postby Alk » Sat Oct 04, 2014 11:27 pm

Hello,

I am currently trialling CloudBacko Lite, backing up to OneDrive. It went through backing up fine and then towards the end (with a few remaining MBs to go) it appeared to hang, although it eventually failed on a few small files. The backup job is about 200MB in size. After a little while had passed, I ran the backup job again and it successfully backed up the files it errored on originally. This is OK, as I now have a complete backup, however, this situation has happened twice and so I'd like to know the reason if possible please.
When looking at the backup job log, on both occasions, the error that is causing the problem is "The request wasn't made because the same type of request was repeated too many times. Wait XX seconds and try again". This error was also present in my other backup job.

An extract of the backup job log (I have obscured the filenames):

Could you please explain the reason for this error?
Thanks.

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in CloudBacko.

Can you tell us if your OneDrive account is a free or subscription account?

Hello,

The behavior you observed at the end of the backup job when CloudBacko Lite appears to hang is due to a limitation with Microsoft OneDrive free account.

For OneDrive free accounts, Microsoft has placed a limitation on the number of times an external application can make API requests to OneDrive within a certain time frame. When this is exceeded OneDrive will temporarily stop processing this API requests, but it will resume automatically after a delay. If you have a paid subscription OneDrive account you can avoid CloudBacko "hanging" during a backup job, otherwise you will have to wait until OneDrive allows the backup to resume.

If you there are other errors shown in the backup log. Do you mind copying the backup logs to Dropbox, OneDrive, Google drive etc and share the link on this thread? Having all logs will help us to get clearer picture of the situation.

Please refer to our FAQ "Where are the CloudBacko backup and restore logs located?" viewtopic.php?f=58&t=233

Thank you. I had read your topic about the "limiting" that OneDrive applies, but I was unsure that this was the reason. It is OK for me now that the backup has completed, as the subsequent backups will be very small. Thank you for your help and prompt replies - everything else has been OK.

Hello, is it possible to do a Data Integrity Check (inc. CRC) when using the free version of OneDrive?
because my check keeps failing after about an hour and I am thinking that it is due to the OneDrive free restriction?

Thanks.

Hello,

Yes, it is possible to run a Data Integrity Check on OneDrive free version.

You could possibly run into OneDrive API call restrictions for Data Integrity Checks on the free version.

I think that this may be happening as the check goes well and then errors. Is this due to the API restrictions?

Hello.

There is not enough information on the screen shot to determine the cause of the "[NullPointerException]null" error encountered during the Data Integrity Check on OneDrive.

-Although you previously mentioned the data size was around 200MB. Can you tell how approximately many files/folders in total CloudBacko has uploaded to OneDrive for this backup set?
-Is OneDrive the only storage destination configured for this backup set?
-Is this OneDrive account been used by other third party applications for sync or storing files? Were there any files been synced or uploaded when the Data Integrity Check was running?

To allow us to get a better understanding of this problem. Do you mind copying the CloudBacko system logs to Dropbox, OneDrive, Google drive etc and share the link on this thread for us to download?

The CloudBacko system logs files are located in:
- C:\users\{username}\.cbp\system
- C:\Users\{username}\.cbp\log\System

Hello

Apologies for the late reply.
I have since purchased Cloudbacko Lite and upgraded to the new version. I have also added an additional 200MB to the backup set.
I have now run a Data Integrity Check and this was successful. I then ticked the box for including a CRC check and ran the Data Integrity Check again and this was also successful. So it would seem that the issue has now resolved itself.

Many thanks!
