Backup doing partial files

Postby Striff » Tue Dec 20, 2016 4:24 pm

Hi,
Just checking to see how CloudBacko works.

I'm backing image files, which are quite large 128GB 14,000 files.
I have limited bandwidth and quota so cannot do the entire set (Plus it has frozen on my backing up a few times), so have to cancel and re-start each month.

It seems to start all over again, but when checking the logs, it's not doing full files and moving onto the next one, seems to do partial files of the whole set.
Which makes it incredibly hard to do a full backup when having to stop and start again.

Is there a way to change this behaviour?

Hi Striff,

As for us to get a clear picture, would you please provide us with the Cloudbacko client log files for our investigation.

You can copy the log files to Dropbox, OneDrive, Google drive etc and share the link on this thread for us to download?

Please refer to our FAQ "Where are the CloudBacko backup and restore logs located?" viewtopic.php?f=58&t=233

Hi Striff,

As checked the backup log, the backup was failed with the following connection error.

[2016/09/24 20:55:50] [erro] [1473623577332] Failed to upload cached index file /Users/Scott/.cbh/tmp/1473623455196/OneDrive@1473623577332/index back to 1473623455196/blocks on OneDrive($AppRoot), Reason = "[OneDriveManager.delete] failed in delete file, path: 1473623455196/blocks/index-s0i0.fnl.2d0.1571dda0168.cgz, [RestStorageService.performRequest] Failed to get new RestRequestBuilder: java.net.SocketException: Network is unreachable[RestStorageService.performRequest] Failed to get new RestRequestBuilder: java.net.SocketException: Network is unreachable"

[2016/12/20 18:13:10] [erro] [1473623577332] [New File] File="/Users/Scott/Pictures/Photos/2008/Riley/2008-08/Riley-22.jpg" Error="[d] [ChunkedOutputStream.FlushData.execute] Failed to flush buffer (/Users/Scott/Pictures/Photos/2008/Riley/2008-08/Riley-22.jpg) to this destination. Also, the backup was also failed with the index error.

Error=[ABlock.parse] Cannot open file., caused by [f] [ABlock.parse] Cannot open file., caused by [IOException] [2016/12/20 18:13:10][BufferedRandomAccessFile.getFilePointerRaf] '/Users/Scott/.cbh/tmp/1473623455196/OneDrive@1473623577332/index/index.b2b' has been closed already."

Since the backup was failed to upload the index for this backup set due to the connection issue, it is recommended to recreate the backup set and redo the backup from scratch.

Before that, please ensure that the connection between the client machine and the Onedrive is stable. Apart from that, please try increase the heap size to 2GB to give CloudBacko more memory resources.

To increase the Java memory settings:

1. Exit CloudBacko Pro and make use there are no active backup jobs running.
2. In a text editor open up the $Cloudbacko_install/config.ini file

Default settings:
app.system.ui.vm.opt.xms=128
app.system.ui.vm.opt.xmx=768
app.system.conf.language=en
app.system.product.name=cbp
app.system.common.format.datetime.hourinday=true

3. Depending on the amount of free memory on your machine, you can increase the settings from 768M to 2048M.

New settings:
app.system.ui.vm.opt.xms=128
app.system.ui.vm.opt.xmx=2048
app.system.conf.language=en
app.system.product.name=cbp
app.system.common.format.datetime.hourinday=true

4. Save the config.ini
5. Restart the Cloudbacko service for the settings to take effective.

Thanks.
I'll try the suggested changes.
Connection to OneDrive I don't have any control over, other than if I have internet access, then I have OneDrive access.

Cheers

Hi Striff,

In this case, please try to split the backup set to see if this will help.
