Backups failing OutOfMemory

Postby katit » Thu Sep 07, 2017 10:11 pm

Recently some of the backups (full backups) started to fail with errors
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space

Any suggesions on how to fix that?

Hello,

It suggests that the memory is insufficient to perform the backup job. To resolve this, can you increase the heap size to 2GB to give CloudBacko more memory resources.

To increase the Java memory settings:

1. Exit CloudBacko Pro and make use there are no active backup jobs running.
2. In a text editor open up the C:\Program Files\CloudBacko Pro\config.ini file

Default settings:
app.system.ui.vm.opt.xms=128
app.system.ui.vm.opt.xmx=768
app.system.conf.language=en
app.system.product.name=cbp
app.system.common.format.datetime.hourinday=true

3. Depending on the amount of free memory on your machine, you can increase the settings from 768M to 2048M.

New settings:
app.system.ui.vm.opt.xms=128
app.system.ui.vm.opt.xmx=2048
app.system.conf.language=en
app.system.product.name=cbp
app.system.common.format.datetime.hourinday=true

4. Save the config.ini
5. Go to [Administrative Tools]>[Services]>[CloudBacko Pro Services] and restart the service for the settings to take effective.

Thank you! Hopefully it will fix it. In my case it was 1024 already. Bumped to 2048

We just changed to app.system.ui.vm.opt.xmx=50720 after app.system.ui.vm.opt.xmx=40720 gave out of memory errors on our Exchange 2016 server. This is not the solution, just a patch i hope.

Hello,
I time times have the same issue (Java.Lang.OutOfMemory exception) while backing-up data on My MAcBook Pro (OS X 10.12.6) .
How can I change Java memory settings on this platform ?

This is a serious issue for me...

Thanks

Hello,

To increase Java heap size on MAC, please find the /Applications/CloudBacko Pro/config.ini file to change the values.

After that, please run the following commands to restart scheduler:

1. Open a terminal
2. Run the following command
sudo sh /Applications/CloudBacko Pro.app/bin/StopScheduler.sh
sudo sh /Applications/CloudBacko Pro.app/bin/Scheduler.sh &

Hi,

I am afraid but I cannot provide a specific value to you as it depends on your available system memory and the volume of the backup source. The easiest way to define the heap value to 2048MB (i.e. you have 4GB + memory on your MacBook Pro) and see if the backup could run (or monitor the memory usage from Finder > Go > Utilities > Activity monitor). Then, make further adjustments (if usage is not near the heap value, then lower. If near max, increase heap if possible).

Kindly let me know if you require further assistance.

Hi, config file contains two similar settings

app.system.ui.vm.opt.xms
app.system.ui.vm.opt.xmx

Should I increase both ?

Thanks

Hi Alberto,

To increase Java heap size, you only need to set the XMX value.
